FAM:8302 Family and Community Medicine
This is a 6-week required rotation.

Goals

The goal is to introduce students to the specialty of Family Medicine and the intersection between care delivered within the ambulatory care setting and the local community.

What to Expect

During this rotation students will have their time divided between a 4-week placement with a board-certified Family Physician in a community-based practice, and a 2-week placement with a Regional Medical Education Center (RMEC), which are University of Iowa-affiliated Family Medicine residencies. Locations include Davenport, Des Moines, Mason City, Sioux City, and Waterloo. A small number of openings will be available at the Iowa City location. During the 2-week placement, students work with local community agencies to learn how they improve health care and support population health.

Enrollment begins in the late fall of the M2 year. Students receive assistance from Medical Student Education staff in site selection.
